figgy pudding

The second round of fig season is upon us, with elderberries and grapes and other sweet little gems coming in too, and this cake caught my eye as a the perfect way to indulge them.  I've been baking a little more lately and something that requires a bit more discipline is a grand way to spend a soggy fall day inside.

anything for you

I'm having a binge this week through the little bit of the music of Tobias Jesso Jr that's available online.

He did a session with La Blogotheque and will be performing at the Pitchfork festival in Paris this winter.

But why isn't he performing somewhere near me...?  I'll just have to learn to play the songs myself with his handy dandy lesson

sweet thing

I am a huge ice cream fan and always have a stash in the freezer. I also regularly make my own but lean towards slightly off kilter flavors like fennel, olive oil sea salt, toasted rice pudding... A friend once begged me to JUST MAKE CHOCOLATE so I made Fergus Henderson's version that requires a few days rest, and it's worth the wait.

So I was pretty happy to discover someone equally into some funky mix ups in Hay Rosie  in Brooklyn. Blood orange olive oil? Toasted coconut with spice candy peanuts? Sage chocolate chip? Yes yes and yes.

And check out their adorable little mini crates!

Sound and Vision

David Bowie released a version of Sound and Vision last year remixed by Sonjay Prabhakar and it's sounding rather good for a Sunday Morning
